The grants committee meets four times per year – 30 January, 24 April, 31 July, 30 October 2026

The A B Charitable Trust was founded in 1990 and promotes human dignity and defends the human rights of marginalised and excluded groups in the UK.

Funding is available to UK registered charities through their Open Programme (other programmes are by invitation only) which has 4 priority areas: https://abcharitabletrust.org.uk/our-priorities

  • Human Rights
  • Access to Justice
  • Criminal and Legal System and Penal Reform
  • Migrants and Refugees

Charities must have a turnover of between £150,000 and £1.5 million a year to be eligible to apply.

Grants range in size, with most grants awarded being in the range of £10,000 to £30,000. As far as is possible, the A B Trust aims to provide unrestricted funding to charities operating in their priority areas.

Applications are made through an online form https://abcharitabletrust.formstack.com/forms/eligibilty. In addition you will need to provide:

  • An overview of your organisation’s work / proposal on a maximum of two sides of A4. (for more details, please refer to the Applying for a Grant page on our website.
  • A signed copy of your latest certified accounts / statement
  • Your latest financial forecast and the projected surplus/deficit for the current financial year
