Bringing communities into the conversation
The people best placed to shape a service, a campaign or a piece of research are the people it is meant for. We help organisations work with Hampshire’s communities from the start, so that what they create is understood, trusted and used.

What is co-design?
Co-design means designing something with the people who will use it, rather than for them. Instead of asking for feedback at the end, community members help set the priorities, test ideas and shape the result.
Our approach, The Action Hampshire Way, is built on a simple belief: the best people to drive real change in a community are community members themselves.
How we can help
We have strong relationships and networks across Hampshire’s communities, and as a champion of community-led action we can help you to engage with, understand, consult and support them. We can:
- plan and run co-design sessions and workshops with community members
- reach communities that are often under-served, through our links with local voluntary and community groups
- engage and consult people on new or existing services
- help communities set their own priorities for health research
- bring what we hear back to you in a clear, practical way
Our recent work
Communities Against Cancer
We are working with our partner Wessex Cancer Alliance, running co-design sessions across Hampshire so that local people can help shape an upcoming cancer awareness campaign. Read more about co-design the Action Hampshire Way or find out about Communities Against Cancer.
Shaping the Conversation
Health research is too often done to communities rather than with them. With our Raising Voices in Research partners, we gave grants to 12 VCSE organisations to run workshops with their community members about the health research they want to see. The 34 research questions they raised were taken to an event with researchers, so that future research reflects what matters to under-served communities.
