Now is a perfect time to think about new ways of involving volunteers and diversifying your volunteer team. Read Nicky’s volunteering advice and find out which other organisations can help you and learn how volunteering is being promoted in your area.
Ideas you could think about
Identify or create stand alone volunteer tasks so you can offer micro, bitesize or remote volunteering? Are there local businesses, groups, colleges or universities that you could link up with to source volunteers?
We champion community-based action. How could you work with communities to support them to take action on the things that matter to them?
If you’re looking for trustees, we advertise your trustee opportunities on our Jobs and Trustee positions board, which you get at a reduced cost as Action Hampshire members.
For even more support with volunteering, Nicky suggests linking in with NCVO (National Council for Voluntary Organisations) and your local CVS (Council for Voluntary Services).

Why not link with the NCVO?
NCVO also offer plenty of support around volunteering too. Membership is free for VCSE organisations with an annual income under £30,000 but if your organisation has an annual income of £50,000 or less you can use the discount code NCVOSCW50 to join NCVO for free throughout June. This is because during June it’s Small Charities Week.
Connect with your local CVS!
The CVS network is here to support you so please contact them for guidance and advice. During Volunteers Week, the CVS would like to encourage all community organisations to take the opportunity to thank their volunteers for their time and commitment.

The Hart Volunteer Centre is one of Hart Voluntary Action’s core services. Together with Rushmoor Voluntary Services and Basingstoke Voluntary Action, they run the Volunteer North Hampshire online platform which promotes roles to residents in the north of the county, so do contact them if you would like us to promote your volunteering opportunities – you are welcome to discuss how to present a volunteering role to attract the best reach. They have a track record of helping voluntary and community organisations place at least 180 volunteers from Hart District each year into short-term or ongoing volunteer roles.

As the Big Help Out long weekend falls within Volunteers’ Week (7-9 June) the CVS North Hampshire has also focused on local volunteering roles linked to the national organisations involved.

The Hart Volunteer Centre team has a stand at the Hartley Wintney Village Festival on Saturday 8 June to mark Volunteers Week and the Big Help Out, and in mid-November (just after Trustees’ Week) they are planning a “speed matching” event for charities and businesses/companies to get together to find out more about volunteering as trustees. To find out more please contact the Hart Volunteer Centre.

Daniel Neat Chief Executive of Basingstoke Voluntary Action tells us:
“Volunteering is at the heart of everything we do. As the Volunteer Hub for Basingstoke & Deane, we help you find the answers to what, where, when and how to volunteer. We work with local voluntary, community and charitable organisations that are in need of volunteers in order to fulfil their mission and help the people and communities in Basingstoke & Deane.
To mark and celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Volunteer’s Week, on Thursday 6 June they will be launching a physical space for the Basingstoke Voluntary Acton Volunteer Hub, providing a setting at their Orchard Building for groups to promote their work and activity to members of the public considering volunteering opportunities.
