ACRE (Action for Communities in Rural England), the organisation behind the Village Hall Week campaign, believes our halls could be a major contributor to the health and well-being of the community.  

In fact, these humble buildings where people meet, learn, exercise, relax and volunteer could, in their own way, help us achieve the NHS’ 5 steps to mental well-being (we’ll talk about these later).

Action Hampshire advocates for the county’s community buildings. We believe the work which goes on behind their walls and in the community is invaluable. Furthermore, if the work helps improve the health of those who interface with them, that’s yet another positive affirmation that these spaces play a vital role in strengthening communities.

In my quest to see exactly how community halls can improve our health, I’ve spoken to staff and volunteers who work at these venues.
