We’re excited to announce that we have secured funding to provide Rural Housing Enabling services in Hampshire.

The government funding is part of a package of support intended to unleash rural opportunity and will support the work of Rural Housing Enablers who broker conversations between residents, councils and builders about securing housing that meets local need.

What do we mean by Rural Affordable Housing?

Rural affordable housing is provided in rural parishes for local people, who would otherwise be unable to find an affordable place to live locally, through the general housing market.

What does Housing Enabling involve?

  • Supporting and advising communities from initial interest in providing affordable housing, through scheme inception and pre-development phases to completion
  • Helping communities to identify local housing need in their area
  • Supporting rural communities to choose a delivery option that best suits their capacity
  • Assisting communities to identify a deliverable site for development of affordable housing
  • Acting as an honest broker between the different parties, providing informed and impartial advice
  • Creating a supportive policy and political environment for rural affordable housing by providing training and advice to key stakeholders
  • Sharing practical initiatives and good practice to support the delivery of rural affordable housing

How can we help you?

We’re looking for communities that are keen to support the bringing forward of rural affordable housing. If you’re part of a rural parish council, local authority, or are a member of a rural community and want to see more housing available for local people, get in touch with us at housing@actionhampshire.org.
