Beyond Reflections has recently received funding from Communities Against Cancer to support trans+ people’s access to cancer care. This project aims to raise awareness of cancer screening, symptoms and the importance of early diagnosis to our members, identify barriers to access for trans+ adults, and use these results to support the sector in removing barriers to access.

“We know that trans+ people often experience discrimination in all health care settings. Our members tell us frequently about being misgendered, challenged or outed by medical professionals, and even misdiagnosed due to being trans+. By collating those experiences, we can use them to start making a meaningful difference to cancer care in the UK.
We need your help to do this!” – Beyond Reflections

Here is an excerpt from our newsletter about my at Southampton Pride in 2022.

I had a wonderful time at my very first Pride event on the 27th and experienced the bustling queer community in Hampshire with tears of joy in my eyes. After rustling up my favourite pride pins and tying up my rainbow laces I arrived in Southampton just in time to join the parade, walking around the city towards Queens Park where the main stalls were held. From independent sellers to human rights campaigns, from fostering agencies to grassroots VCSE organisations, I was able to see the diversity of Southampton and beyond in physical form. The first ‘Pride’ at Stonewall was a riot, and this event has in many areas become more of a party than a protest- and for someone who struggles with large crowds, it was wonderful to experience an event so focused on community and education rather than being marketable. However you identify, I hope you will consider attending a Pride event in the future- they really are the backbone of the queer community, and bring people together in a way I’ve never seen before.

You can also find the People’s Pride Southampton website via this link, who organise Southampton Pride events and other LGBTQIA+ celebrations and initiatives.
