For a number of years, Action Hampshire has run the Hampshire Leadership Forum (HLF) (via this link) which ensures Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector representation on various county-wide boards, eg Hampshire Health and Wellbeing Board and Hampshire Safeguarding Adult’s Board, as well as representation for key areas within the community, eg social enterprise and disability organisations. We have a core membership of representatives who meet regularly and the Forum also seeks to increase engagement between the VCSE and public sectors, with someone from the public sector often being invited to present at a meeting.
Recently, we’ve realised that the wider local VCSE sector, not just the core HLF members, would benefit from hearing from these public sector colleagues, as well as having the chance to ask questions and network with them. Many VCSE organisations have been, or are currently, reliant on public sector funding, but it’s important that the sector is not just seen as a recipient of funding but that it has the knowledge and experience to actively collaborate in the design and commissioning of services. This is your chance to ensure your voice is heard!
We’re pleased to announce we have the following speakers:
- Nicky Ward, Strategic Relationship Manager, Adults’ Health and Care, Hampshire County Council. Nicky will be focusing on HCC’s relationship with the VCSE sector.
- Shelley Talbot, Regional Funding Manager, National Lottery. Shelley will be sharing about the launch of the National Lottery’s new strategy and their engagement with the VCSE sector.
- Daniel King, from the VCSE Observatory. Daniel will be speaking about their VCSE Barometer Survey and the importance of VCSE organisations being involved in this.
You will also have the opportunity to meet with HLF representatives through a series of round table discussions to hear more about their role and to express your views so these can be taken back to the various boards within local government.
Location: Shawford Village Hall
Time: 9:30-13:00

Meet the speakers:
Find out who represents you and your climate change concerns
Come and meet Chris Holloway, who promotes climate change action within the local VCSE sector, at the Raising the Voice of the VCSE Sector event on 29 June, 9:30-13:00 at Shawford Parish Hall, where Chris will be leading a roundtable discussion.
Three-quarters of the British people are worried about the climate emergency. What can community and voluntary organisations do, when their focus is on services to their community/ies?
Chris, chair of Hampshire Climate Action, invites you to consider how a small local organisation can lead in cutting its own carbon footprint; how to engage with service users about the climate; what can be done to influence those who shape our environment, such as the County Council; and resources and support from local climate groups.
Do you want to know who represents you and your concerns on the Hampshire Children’s Trust Board?
Madeleine says, “I am the current Children and Young People’s representative on behalf of Action Hampshire on the Children’s Trust Board and Executive Group. The Children’s Trust brings together statutory agencies (Hampshire County Council, Integrated Care Board, NHS and Police), the representatives from the local Children and Young People’s Partnerships and the voluntary sector to oversee the Children and Young People’s Plan and discuss related issues including education, child refugee support, funding etc. I also sit on the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Joint Youth Justice Management Board which looks at the youth justice which has oversight of the justice services for children and contributes local multi-agency strategies. I have been trying to establish an email group of children and young people charities to share issues so that we are well represented in the meetings. Many of you will be connected into your Local Children and Young People’s Partnerships but this is another opportunity to ensure that the needs of children and young people are heard.”
