We are pleased to report that our Communities Against Cancer Project continues to make strides in raising awareness of cancer.
On Sunday 27 October at Carnival Hall in Basingstoke, a health and well-being event took place. The main aim was to provide support in accessing cancer services by raising awareness of cancer within the Nepalese community.
100 people participated on the day with representatives from the Nepalese nursing association and NHS cancer consultants and GPs. Kishor Patel from our Communities Against Cancer project represented Action Hampshire.
At the event participants had the opportunity to listen to speakers discussing various health issues and what to do if they need to access cancer services. Participants were also offered free health checks.
The event, funded by our Communities Against Cancer project provided the perfect opportunity for health representatives to interact with the community and guide them towards further support should they need it.
Nisha, the programme co-ordinator said, ‘I am so happy to mention that this event has provided the forum for all to interact, and plan for future health activities for the community people. After the programme we have formed BNC health champions volunteers’ team to support the community in future…thank you Communities Against Cancer for funding this project and making it possible to organise this community event’.
