At Action Hampshire, we are becoming increasingly involved in green projects. Being outside and interacting with the environment is not only beneficial to the planet but keeps us active too. This has a positive impact on our well-being too.

Our Greening for Wellbeing Project

Last year we delivered a Greening for Wellbeing project. Funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) the project’s aim was to explore the health and wellbeing benefits of nature and outdoor projects. Third sector organisations across Hampshire deliver some valuable green projects that really impact people’s physical, emotional, and mental health; reducing loneliness and helping people to move more. From community gardens and food growing, to wild swimming, nature spotting, river cleaning and walks in parks; there’s a huge range of activities available.

Hampshire Communities for People and Planet Project!

This is a brand new fully funded project. Action Hampshire would like to understand the perceptions, motivations, and needs of communities facing barriers regarding participation in climate action. We’re also keen to explore community resilience and what these communities need to support them against the impact of climate change. Grant applications for this project are now closed but we’ll be sharing more about our project delivery soon.

Hampshire County Council green projects

We hope to deliver more green focused projects in the future. In the meantime, your organisation may be interested in some of the opportunities below.

Community Orchards

HCC is able to fully fund either the creation of a new orchard, or expansion of an existing orchard. They can fund the trees, protection, stakes and interpretation panels. It’s a simple application process, but projects must be run by communities and orchards should be in accessible locations for the community. Schools are also eligible for this fund.

Mini Forests

HCC has funding available for the installation of 5 mini forests across Hampshire. These are special little micro woodlands, which grow much faster than ordinary woods due to the soil enhancements which are part of the method. They hold more carbon, and are climate resilient. They also support more biodiversity and are excellent learning resources for schools and communities. They are about the size of a tennis court and can be designed to be flexible for your requirements, with benches, paths and special features. We can fully fund all costs, but need community involvement to help with design and planting and aftercare.
