Dementia doesn’t just affect the person living with dementia, it impacts families and friends too. At The Dementia Care Hub, their mission to help make life easier for those individuals and families living with dementia.

What support do they provide?

The Dementia Care Hub, works in community buildings to ensure people and families living with dementia remain an integral part of the community. They provide social support and guidance to empower people to live the lives they want to live for as long as possible. They do this by using a new approach to dementia care, wellbeing sessions and a We Care Dementia Care Programme for care partners and families.  They also provide:

Weekly drop-in social groups for anyone affected by dementia to reduce isolation and loneliness.

Weekly wellbeing sessions for people living with dementia to enjoy time independently from their families. This is important for wellbeing but also for those later care transitions.

Carer and art groups are run side by side, providing care partners the ability to speak more freely with others in a similar position whilst offering the person living with dementia the chance to take part in a stimulating activity. Research has shown this can have a lasting positive impact of psychological wellbeing. Carers reported their partners had a more positive mood for up to 2 hours after the session.

An innovative and effective approach to dementia care

Using a model called ‘Adjustments for Change’, developed by their founder Dr Kellyn Lee, Chartered Psychologist, avoidable distress can be reduced and they are able to gently guide people through the different care transitions. They provide both practical and emotional support led by the community’s needs.

Support every step of the way

On receiving a diagnosis most people say they feel abandoned and alone. The Dementia Care Hub offers support to help combat this. They collaborate with other organisations, voluntary and statutory services to help reduce the stress felt by families and help them navigate the health and social care systems. They also create lively and welcoming spaces that are both fun and sensitive.  Being a shoulder to cry on or having a laugh together is a key part of what they do and they are there to support individuals and families every step of the way.
