The Horndean Voluntary Care Group has been in operation in the Horndean Parish area since 1979 and, during that time, well over 200 volunteers have ‘passed through their hands’ and they have undertaken thousands of tasks on behalf of the residents of South Horndean, Blendworth, Catherington and Lovedean.

The Group offers a door-to-door service to hospitals, GP surgeries, dentists, hairdressers, lunch clubs, opticians, shopping trips etc. All they ask for is a donation towards petrol expenses but the Volunteers time is free of charge.

What their beneficiaries say…

‘Their patience, kindness, and dedication allow us to maintain a semblance of independence, a gift that at our age, is priceless. Each ride is not just a drive; it’s an interaction filled with warmth and care, reminding us that the spirit of giving and receiving help is alive and well’ . Gordon and Stella Cunningham

Would you like to be a volunteer?

If you have your own means of transport and feel able to assist the Group they would love to hear from you. Drivers can be reimbursed with a mileage allowance. Or you could help them by taking incoming telephone calls in your own home from those residents requiring assistance. All volunteers will be required to undertake a DBS (no charge).

Hear from Brenda,  a dedicated volunteer

‘I joined  HVCG as a driver some 15 year ago.  At the time of entering into this established, well-run group of volunteers I was recovering from a triple heart bypass and felt I needed to give something back for recovering from my ordeal.  Becoming a member gave me my self-confidence back and a chance to see and help people who needed assistance in many ways’.
