“I’ve been a Trustee of Action Hampshire for four years and am approaching the end of my first year as Chair. We are especially keen to add financial expertise to our Board.

Providing support and guidance to village halls and other community-led initiatives, particularly in rural communities (click this link to find out more about how we support community buildings)
What does a Trustee do?
Being a Trustee is a voluntary role and is incredibly important in the running of any charity.
“Our role as trustees is step back from the day-to-day, work with staff to plan for the longer term, set out our strategic direction, and then to support and appropriately challenge the CEO and the staff team as they carry out their work. Most of that happens in Board meetings and working parties. We make sure we work safely, legally and within our means, and that everything we do serves the people and communities who need us.” – Richard Barritt, trustee at Action Hampshire
You don’t need to have previous board or committee experience as training will be provided. All Trustees work from our standard Job but really what we are looking for most of all is:
- Passion and enthusiasm for communities and what they can deliver
- Commitment to our values and to attend our meetings
- Curiosity to find out more and keep asking questions
It’s vital we raise the voices of all the communities we serve. We want Action Hampshire to be a diverse and inclusive space made up of people from all different ages, physical ability, sexual orientation, race, religious belief, and socio-economic background. While the culture we have is inclusive, we also hold our hands up to the fact that we don’t have a diverse Board in all respects.
So, whatever your age, ethnicity, or cultural background, we need people who share the same passion for people and communities as our staff and, who can look at things with a fresh set of eyes and a different set of life experiences.
We hope that you consider applying, and we can share our knowledge and passion with the world – together.
