How are your projects helping to reduce loneliness?

Communities Tackling Loneliness with Transport

We have been talking a lot about loneliness, as this is an issue affecting many people all over Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Loneliness affects mental and physical health, including life expectancy so its an issue for all of us. Our project ‘Communities Tackling Loneliness with Transport’ has seen three charities delivering sustainable transport to help older people in Hampshire connect with others and reduce loneliness. This is a pilot project funded by the Department for Transport to help us learn about what works and how we can support people increase their meaningful social connections and deepen relationships with others. The University of Winchester is evaluating the impact on loneliness.

We know lots of you are also delivering projects which help people connect and bring people together. This could be through clubs /activities, help with transport, connecting with people at home and on the telephone or encouraging volunteering. We would love to hear about your projects and gather and share the learning from Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Please get in touch so we can learn more about your project and how it is helping reduce loneliness for the people you support.
