Hampshire Safety Adults Board are hosting an online workshop:

Good practice in self neglect – Thursday 13 January, 9:30 – 13:00

About the workshop…

Self-neglect poses complex challenges to agencies engaged in adult safeguarding. Statutory guidance to the Care Act 2014 places it clearly with the range of circumstances that constitute abuse and neglect, thus placing an onus on Safeguarding Adults Boards to promote and facilitate interagency collaboration.

A strong culture of working together, clarity between agencies about roles and relationships and a coordinated risk management strategy are crucial. Equally important is the ability of practitioners to engage people who may be reluctant and fearful, and to build relationships of trust that can assist in negotiating the ethical dilemmas faced in practice.

This workshop brings together evidence from two key sources in order to identify how positive outcomes can be achieved:

  • Research into the challenges and opportunities that self-neglect practice provides;
  • Learning from safeguarding adult reviews, including both national and local themes.

Who should attend?

It will be of value to practitioners from across the safeguarding partnership, as well as to those with supervisory and/or management responsibility for supporting best practice within their agency.
