On Wednesday 28 August we took part in a celebratory event to commemorate the work of the Bill Sargent Trust.

The trust was set up in memory of the Reverend Bill Sargent who dedicated his life to decreasing poverty and homelessness. Action Hampshire was asked to carry out a piece of research and worked with The Society of St James in Southampton and their Service User Residents Association (SURA).

The research investigated, through participatory workshops with service users, how homeless services impact mental health and perceptions of homeless services. Creative ways to gain this data included a graffiti wall, poetry and photovoice (participants taking photos to represent their experiences).

To mark the end of this valuable piece of research an event was held at October Books in Southampton where attendees listened to speakers involved in the project. These included Kirsty Rowlinson, a Bill Sargent trustee, Richard LePeuple from The Society of St James and Jess Johnson, Community Researcher at Action Hampshire.

To be able to action the recommendations, access to additional resources such as funding is needed. If you you’d like to get in touch with us to discuss this project or help with future research projects, please contact jessica.johnson@actionhampshire.org
