Calling all organisations across Hampshire and Isle of Wight who run nature or green activities that aim to improve people’s health or wellbeing. We want to work with you to help discover and highlight the benefits of these activities!

Action Hampshire is being funded by the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) to carry out a short-term project from now until the end of March to take the first step to looking at the impact of green and blue projects for wellbeing, that underserved communities participate in. Read on to find out more and to apply to be a part of the project!

We are looking for organisations who deliver green or blue activities…

For example: a health walk, nature activities, community garden, river cleaning, farm activities, park volunteering, food growing or anything else that involves activities in nature or green space, rivers, or sea.

…that are aimed at supporting the health and wellbeing…

This could be physical, mental, emotional, linked with a specific health condition or for general wellbeing

…of underserved communities.

For this project we are especially interested in activities which involve people with a mental health condition, a learning disability, those affected by dementia or other long term health condition, people from a black or minority ethnic community and those experiencing homelessness. Other examples NIHR give of underserved communities include migrants, asylum seekers, people living in care homes, prison populations, traveller communities, carers, pregnant women, people with multiple health conditions, people with physical disabilities.

What will participation in the project look like?

As part of Greening for Wellbeing you would be supported to share the successes and challenges you have experienced when evidencing the impact of your project, and you would learn about impact measurement tools used by other green projects. You would be provided with a small grant to enable your involvement. We also aim to raise the profile of nature and green activities for wellbeing and hope that this project could lead onto further work to support green projects to demonstrate and have a greater impact.

If you are interested, please tell us a bit more about your organisation and why you would like to take part by completing this short application form:  Greening for Wellbeing application via this link.

Action Hampshire is pleased to have been funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) to undertake a short-term project until the end of March, to begin to explore the health and wellbeing benefits of nature and outdoor projects. We know that third sector organisations across Hampshire deliver some valuable green projects that really impact people’s physical, emotional, and mental health; reducing loneliness and helping people to move more. From community gardens and food growing, to wild swimming, nature spotting, river cleaning and walks in parks; there’s a huge range of activities available. Action Hampshire’s mission is to support, connect and resource the VCSE sector, so we’re hoping this project will be the start of a journey, helping you to measure and demonstrate the impact of your green projects and promoting the benefits for communities and individuals.

If you’d like to know more about the project, please get in touch via this link!
