Small Charity week is here, and at Action Hampshire, we couldn’t be more excited!

We’ve always been passionate about supporting the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector – especially the smaller organisations that are making a huge difference with limited resources.

Whether it’s a large charity, a small lunch club, or a social enterprise, we’re all about helping people and communities be the best they can be. That’s why this year’s Small Charity week theme, “Resilient Charities for Stronger Communities,” resonates so strongly with us – it’s exactly what we’re all about! This week isn’t just about showcasing how we support small organisations to grow and thrive. It’s also a chance to celebrate them. These groups are at the heart of our communities, quietly delivering vital services, creating connections, and sparking change.

And what better way to kick off the week than with some exciting news…

Action Hampshire was featured on BBC Radio Solent! – Our very own SOUP events took to the airwaves, shining a light on just one of the many ways we support small community initiatives. Keith McCallister, our resident SOUP guru, and Alfie’s Arc – last year’s winning project – were invited to join Katie Martin on her lunchtime radio show. They shared the story behind SOUP: a community micro-funding event where local people pitch for small pots of funding to bring their ideas to life. During the 15-minute interview, 13-year-old Maisy from Alfie’s Arc stole the show with a heartfelt and powerful account of how the initiative has impacted her family and inspired her to get involved in community work.

But SOUP is just one example…

Over the past year, we’ve been shining a spotlight on incredible organisations through our Member of the Month feature – highlighting the tireless work of voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations across Hampshire. These features are a chance to celebrate our members, share their stories, and showcase the diverse ways they’re strengthening our communities.

So, during Small Charity Week, we invite everyone to take a moment to recognise and appreciate the small charities working hard behind the scenes. Their resilience, creativity and compassion are what keep our communities connected and thriving.
