We are proud to announce that Friends of the Family are our returning member of the month for July!

About our organisation

Friends of the Family supports and empowers families in the Winchester district who are facing adversity, helping them to embrace their future with confidence. Working at the heart of our community, we give families tailored support and practical guidance, helping them to help themselves and break cycles of behaviour for future generations. This is delivered through our Mums and Young Children’s Project, 5s to 13s Befriending Service and Support for Dads.

This year marks 30 years since Friends of the Family was established to provide early intervention for vulnerable families in our community. Our Mums and Young Children’s project is our founding service and offers a weekly non-judgmental therapeutic group environment and support network for mums with babies and pre-school children. Provided in a safe and nurturing environment, mums come together on a Tuesday morning while their children are looking after by a play leader and team of volunteers. Alongside the support group, mums can access one-to-one counselling with childcare provided. In addition to receiving professional support and guidance, the mums build a network of peers, which helps reduce isolation and develops a long-term support network.

“The Mums and Young Children Project literally saved my life. I genuinely believed I would kill myself before I started coming here. It’s time for me. I can try and get me back. I’ve never left my children with anyone, but I’d happily leave them with the volunteers knowing I don’t have to worry about them. The support between the group is also important. I’ve grown as a person. I know I have got demons, but I am in control,” – Karla, mum

From September, we are welcoming new mums into our group so if you’d like further information or to refer a mum, please do contact us on hello@fotfwinchester.org, 01962 864466 or visit our website via this lnk
