Have you heard about Communities Against Cancer? It’s Action Hampshire’s cancer awareness project funded by Wessex Cancer Alliance. Sadly, we are reaching the end of the project, but the good news is, we still have some funding left for the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector to apply for a grant! Communities Against Cancer (CAC) is all about helping communities reduce their risk of cancer and improve early diagnosis; we know early diagnosis saves lives.
Projects help raise awareness of cancer and can focus on any aspect of awareness including helping people reduce their risk, explaining why cancer screening is so important or encouraging people to contact their GP practice early on when they are concerned about a possible symptom.

So, What Grants are Available?

We have grants of up to £5,000 available for cancer awareness projects for VCSE groups. This is open to all VCSE groups across Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight. We particularly want to hear from groups where members/communities may experience health inequalities and poorer health outcomes and where this cancer awareness is so important. These may include communities on lower incomes, minority ethnic groups, neuro diverse people and people with learning disabilities, carers, LGBTQ+ people, people living with long term health conditions and/or disabilities and people experiencing mental health difficulties.

Many groups across Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight have benefitted from this funding over the last 3 years. Projects have included healthy cooking workshops, health awareness sessions, radio programmes encouraging conversations, arts & craft sessions with cancer conversations and physical activity sessions. As long as you can help people learn about cancer then we don’t mind how you do it!

Not Sure if This Grant is for You?

Don’t worry, you don’t need to know lots about cancer to apply for this funding. We offer free cancer awareness workshops on Zoom which will give you confidence to talk about cancer awareness, and we can support you through your projects. The closing date for applications is 30th November 2022 but we would encourage you to apply as soon as possible before funds runs out. All projects will need to be completed by March 2023.
If you would like to chat over an idea for a project, get support with an application or book on to our cancer awareness workshops, please contact our new Communities Against Cancer Project Officer, Kishor Patel, by clicking this link.
