We give local voluntary, community, and social enterprises the tools, support, and connections they need to take action their way. By collaborating with the people who know the communities best, we help strengthen local organisations, tackle inequalities and create healthier, fairer, more inclusive communities. We’re calling this methodology ‘The Action Hampshire Way’.

Our Communities Against Cancer project is the perfect example of how we apply this approach.

It starts with our workshops. These online, informal, and interactive sessions introduce VSCEs (Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise) organisations to the project’s objectives and provide fundamental cancer awareness knowledge. We advise VCSE participants about the Communities Against Cancer grants available and how to apply for them.

Financial support, advice and guidance. We understand that raising awareness of cancer isn’t easy and that some communities face barriers when it comes to accessing health information and seeking medical advice. Through Wessex Cancer Alliance, we award grants of up to £2500 and help your organisation connect with other organisations and raise cancer awareness.

We believe VCSEs know their community the best. No two communities are the same and your organisation or group understands how to effectively share the information we provide in ways which resonates with your community including those which are seldom heard.

Our Health Champions reach out to the heart of the community. These compassionate volunteers often with lived experience, deliver our cancer awareness information and bridge the gap between healthcare providers and the community. Meet Anjali, she’s a Communities Against Cancer Health Champion for the Hampshire Indian Community. Hear her story.
