About the Fund

The Strengthening Justice fund provides flexible grants to support organisations that are already using and shaping the law in partnership with the communities they serve. The fund aims to connect these organisations more closely with communities facing injustice and to provide the space required to respond to emerging opportunities and challenges.

Funding decisions are guided by two main factors:

  • Accountability to communities: How the organisation works with and seeks to increase accountability to the communities it serves, ensuring those with the least power are heard and work is adapted to reflect their needs.
  • Using the law to drive wider change: How the organisation uses legal tools creatively and collaboratively to build power in communities, challenge/reshape law and policy, and promote social justice.

The fund supports a wide range of approaches, such as using Freedom of Information requests to drive policy/research or utilizing the public sector equality duty to challenge discrimination.
