The C T Thomas Trust aims to fulfil its objects by providing a sustainable and growing grant-making programme, supporting a wide variety of charitable projects and organisations across the UK.  Grants, generally for under £5,000, are available to UK registered charities for a wide variety of charitable projects and organisations across the UK. To ensure a good level of social impact, the trustees prefer to fund organisations which have real difficulty getting funding elsewhere and which demonstrate evidence of effective work meeting a compelling need. For this reason, many of the grants are to fund smaller organisations and those without public appeal.

The General Fund awards grants in the following categories:

o The advancement of health or saving of lives.
o The advancement of human rights, equality and diversity.
o The advancement of citizenship or community development.
o The advancement of education.
o The advancement of religion.
o The prevention or relief of poverty.
o The advancement of the arts, culture, heritage or science.
o Local charitable purposes.
o The relief of those in need by reason of youth, disability or other disadvantage.
o The support of the Armed Forces of the Crown, and
o The protection of the environment.
