The Forte Charitable Foundation (Previously known as Trusthouse) is a medium-sized independent grant making foundation which makes grants totalling around £2 million a year to a variety of charitable projects. They fund both charities and charitable organisations, and provide grants for both general running costs and capital projects.

The aim of the foundation is to address local issues in areas of extreme urban deprivation, or in remote and fragile rural communities. They offer ‘Small Grants’ of up to £10,00 and ‘Major Grants’ between £10,000 and £50,000, depending on your organisation’s annual income.

Small Grants:  up to £10,000 for any eligible organisation with a total annual income up to £250,000

Major Grants:  between £10,000 and £50,000, for eligible organisations with a total income up to £500,000

Your project must support a community that sits within the IMD deprivation limits set out in the trusts funding guidelines.

General eligibility notes:

  • Charitable organisations (including social enterprises, not-for-profit registered companies and voluntary organisations) in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. We do not fund CICs.
  • UK based small to medium sized local organisations with a demonstrable track record of success working to address local issues in communities of extreme urban deprivation  and deprived rural districts
  • Revenue costs including core costs, salaries,  running and project costs

You can find out which grants you are eligible for in their guidelines, which can be found here https://www.fortecharitablefoundation.org.uk/our-grants

Trusthouse offers further information on the types of projects they consider, along with a comprehensive FAQ’s, which can be found on their website.

Small Grants will usually receive a final decision within 8 weeks of the receipt of your application.  Major Grants will be decided at our Grants Committee meetings which  take place in January, April, July and October. If you are applying for a Major Grant, please allow 12-15 weeks for the entire two-stage process.
