The AB Charitable Trust is an independent grant-making organisation, founded in 1990 to champion human dignity and support marginalised and excluded groups. One of their priorities is to support charities working with migrants and refugees.

The Trust recognises that charities offer a range of interventions to support people who are migrants, refugees, and seeking asylum, while operating in a difficult context. They aim to support charities that are working to respond to immediate needs within communities, as well as those working towards a consistent and fair policy environment.

The Trust generally makes one-off grants to charities registered and working in the UK with annual incomes between £150,000 and £1.5m that do not have substantial investments or surpluses. Charities may apply for both core costs and project work.

To be eligible for the open programme, an applicant charity will:

  • Work in one of our priority areas
  • Be registered as a UK charity, delivering work in the UK
  • Have an annual income between £150k and £1.5m
  • Have operated for at least a year and be able to provide a full year’s audited or independently examined accounts
  •

Grants range in size, with most grants awarded being in the range of £10,000 to £20,000.

The Grants Committee meets four times a year to assess and decide upon grant applications. The application deadlines for 2022/23 are as follows:

The next application is on 30 April 2023. Decisions in July 2023.
