We are delighted to announce that our Communities Against Cancer project will continue until June 2026. We will work alongside Wessex Cancer Alliance to deliver cancer awareness in Hampshire, Dorset and IOW.

6 years and counting

We are proud to have worked on the project for over 6 years. To give you an insight into how it all started and where we are now, why not read our blog ‘The Story so Far’?

Cancer doesn’t discriminate

Cancer affects everyone, and our mission is to help spread the word about the disease to encourage early diagnosis. Detecting cancer early often leads to more treatment options and better outcomes. We believe everyone should be empowered to take control of their health and nobody should be left behind. Communities Against Cancer addresses health inequalities making the world a fairer place.

Addressing the imbalance in health inequality

In some seldom-heard communities, awareness of cancer is low.  By working together with VCSEs we would like to encourage people to attend screenings, visit a GP to get signs or symptoms checked and feel more comfortable talking about cancer.

Language barriers, cultural differences or stigmas prevent some people from seeking medical advice so it’s important to listen to these communities to understand why cancer awareness is low.

Funding opportunities are now live!

This year we are offering a tiered structure grants of £750, £1500 and £2500 to VCSEs. These funds will support your organisation to deliver cancer awareness in an effective way for your community.  Previous grantees have organised events with free food, festivals, art and healthy eating workshops and storytelling evenings.

What’s new in 2025/26

We will also offer VCSEs the opportunity to co-design communications using our in-house Comms specialist. The idea behind this is to create leaflets, posters, videos, and messages which resonate with the community.

Do you know any health champions? If your organisation is successful in receiving a grant we will work with you to appoint a health champion volunteer. These individuals will play a key role in liaising with their community to find out how cancer awareness is delivered in the most effective way.

Would you like to organise an event and spread the word about cancer?

If so, please contact our Communities Against Cancer team.
