Cancer is more treatable the earlier it is detected so it may be helpful to be aware of some key signs and symptoms of cancer. Remember these are often of a sign of something else less serious than cancer, but they need to be checked out with your GP.

These are not the only symptoms of cancer so it is important that people go the GP to discuss any changes they notice or anything which is unusual for them.

  • Breathlessness
  • Unexplained vaginal bleeding
  • Very heavy night sweats
  • Croaky voice or hoarseness
  • Persistent heartburn or indigestion
  • Mouth or tongue ulcer that won’t heal
  • Persistent bloating
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • A change in bowel habit
  • Persistent cough
  • Sore that won’t heal
  • Appetite loss
  • Unusual breast changes
  • Blood in your poo
  • Blood in your wee
  • Problems peeing
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • New mole or changes to a mole
  • Coughing up blood
  • Unusual lump or swelling
  • Unexplained pain or ache
