WBI is a social enterprise on a mission to support an inclusive and sustainable economy. They work innovatively on projects for business and human rights. They are based in Portsmouth but their work is both local and global.

What do they do?

A research consultancy with a community service mission, working on new ideas for a responsible economy. Their mission is centered on delivering the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 8. This is about promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment and decent work for all’ 

It is a Community Interest Company, channeling profits from the consultancy work on business and human rights into their community service. Work with clients has featured in the corporate reports of global brands such as Dell, HPE and Target. 

How to they do this?

By helping the private sector, civil societies, governments and international institutions create tangible and sustainable solutions for a more responsible economy. At the same time, they work with local partners to identify and meet the needs of marginalised individuals, to help them be a part of an inclusive and sustainable economy. They undertake specialist research and projects with clients to build ethical supply chains worldwide. WBI works with clients in Training and Education and has a strong reputation in providing practical and industry-focused training on human rights and labour standards. 
 
They also provide Specialist Projects and Advisories. They have researched and written internal reports for clients on forced labour in Southeast Asia, labour exploitation in the UK maritime sector, and closed-door briefings on environmental, social and governance (ESG) developments for clients. 

Delivering a Community Service

WBI is the the proud recipient of Portsmouth’s Community Innovation Award in 2022 and the National Lottery Community Funding to increase food security and public health education through their hallmark Food With Friends project.  They recently won a Community Inclusion Grant from Portsmouth City Council to improve employment outcomes for minority and migrant job seekers in the Portsmouth area by targeting digital inequalities. This project is an extension of their hallmark Employment Support for Migrants Programme, which seeks to increase Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in the job market.
