You are warmly invited to our Annual General Meeting on Thursday 4 November.
At this years’ AGM we are focussing on the theme of voice.
Our AGM is a moment we invite the sector to join us and reflect on what we have all achieved together – and to think about how we use our voices; collective, community or individual to keep evolving the sector and our work so that it reflects what communities need.
The VSCE sector makes a huge contribution in giving voice to people from all of our communities, bringing them together in ways that are meaningful and ensuring people have the resources and opportunities to thrive where they are.
Action Hampshire has been part of this sector now for seventy years and although a huge amount has changed in that time, there are still some common challenges and rewards. As the county wide Council for Voluntary Services and the Rural Community Council we aim to support all the different organisations in their work, providing networks, expertise, information, training and insight.
We will be joined by three speakers and we will also encourage you to take part in reflection on the State of the Sector work – so that your voice will also be a key part of this years AGM.
Our Speakers
Dr Patrick Vernon OBE
Patrick Vernon is a campaigner, cultural historian and author of 100 Great Black Britons campaign. Patrick led a successful campaign for Windrush day, a national day acknowledging the migrant contribution to UK society,[which was officially backed by the government in 2018. Patrick is currently Associate Director for Connected Communities at the Centre for Ageing Better, Equality and Diversity Adviser to Lambeth Council, Chair of Citizens Partnership for Healthcare Investigation Branch (HSIB) and Senior Associate at OLMEC.
Patrick is a Clore and Winston Churchill Fellow, Fellow at Imperial War Museum, fellow of Royal Historical Society and former Associate fellow for the department of history of medicine at Warwick University.
Ian Loynes
Ian Loynes is CEO of Spectrum Centre for Independent Living CIC in Southampton and is actively involved with several other organisations controlled by Disabled People. He was a Trustee for the National Centre for Independent Living; and has been a Trustee of Disability Rights UK since they formed in 2012.
Ian is passionate about the Social Model of Disability, the importance of a strong and vibrant Disability Movement, and the development of User-Led Organisations and has served on a number of influential bodies, locally, regionally & nationally. Ian was a commissioner on the Southampton Fairness Commission, served on the Independent Living Scrutiny Group (Office of Disability Issues) and co-founded SENDPO (the South East Network of Disabled People’s Organisations). Ian is currently a member of the Independent Living Strategy Group, a national network co-ordinating Independent Living strategy nationally and led by Baroness Campbell of Surbiton.
Judith Davey
Judith Davey is a CEO of The Advocacy Project who support marginalised people through advocacy and user involvement to speak up, understand their rights and make meaningful choices about what happens in their lives.
A resident of Hampshire Judith is also a member of the board of the Abbotts Ann Community Land Trust which is seeking to bring affordable housing to the village.
Judith has served a number of charities, public sector and healthcare organisations and was recently recognised by IEra WomenLeaders as one of the ten most inspiring leaders CEOs of 2021.
