At Action Hampshire we welcome the Government’s plans to phase out tobacco use.

The proposed Tobacco and Vapes Bill represents a decisive step towards protecting the next generation from the harms of nicotine addiction. With 80,000 deaths annually and 1-in-4 cancer deaths linked to smoking, this legislation is a positive step forward.

The Bill aims to phase out tobacco use by making it illegal to sell tobacco products to anyone born on or after 1 January 2009.

By increasing the age of sale by one year every year, the government estimates that up to 1.7 million fewer people will smoke by 2075, preventing 115,000 cases of serious illness.

Action Hampshire is committed to making Hampshire smokefree and welcomes legislation which could lead to less people smoking and lead to happier, healthier communities. If you’d like to help Hampshire become smoke free, why not join us for our final, online workshop, hosted by Let’s Be Free Hampshire on Wednesday 13 May.
