Our Member of the month for September is Recapture Life CIC

Our aim is to support people with a dementia diagnosis, carers and family members to live as fulfilling a life as possible.  This comes in a variety of forms from working with groups to working with individuals.

We set up Recapture Life as we could see there are not enough support activities just for people with dementia in the area.  Through personal experience of caring for someone with dementia 24/7 we understand the difficulties and frustrations that many carers experience.  Also having worked in the dementia field for a number of years with lots of experience in supporting individuals with dementia and their carers.

We run 3 hour Cognitive Stimulation Therapy Groups for people with mild to moderate dementia in the community and care homes.  This provides a variety of activities with a different theme each week.  The group is no larger than 8 people.  This also allows 3 hours of respite for the carers.

“We absolutely love running our groups as we have so much fun.”

We are really keen to engage with as many people as possible affected by dementia to enable our research to be as inclusive as possible.  If you would like to know more please email lesley@recapturelife.co.uk

Recapture and Raising Voices in Research

We were fortunate to be involved in Raising Voices in Research with Action Hampshire which has led us to an opportunity to carry out research in the dementia community through the CPAR2 scheme.

The theme we are looking at is the Cost of Living and how this impacts the dementia community.  This is funded by NHS England South East and we are working with the University of Reading and the Scottish Community Development Centre.  We were one of only 12 groups to be given this opportunity in the South East of England.  We are also working with Portsmouth University to set up another piece of research, but more on this later!
