Have your voice heard. Share your experiences. Embed change into future research projects.

We have an exciting new opportunity to take part in a fully funded project…

Earlier this year, 11 VCSE organisations and their communities took part in Raising Voices in Research – follow this link to read more about the project. Now we are delighted to announce we have secured funding to deliver Phase 2!

We’re looking for VCSE organisations that work with the following communities to take part in this exciting next stage:

  • LGBTQIA+ people
  • Refugees and asylum seekers
  • People experiencing homelessness

WHAT is Raising Voices in Research?

The first phase of Raising Voices in Research ran from January – March 2023. 11 organisations delivered two workshops with their community members to uncover their perceptions of research and what they would need to take part in research. The insights from these workshops were used to create a:

  • Local Plan for Research

A document that highlights how particular communities want to be involved in research.

  • Communications Toolkit

A document that describes the messaging that should be used to encourage particular communities to take part in research.

Phase 2 will embed the learning from the Local Plan for Research, by matching VCSE organisations with a relevant researcher and real research project. However, our evaluation of Phase 1 identified some communities were not reached through the programme. Therefore, we would like to fund 6 new organisations who work with either LGBTQIA+ communities, refugees and asylum seekers, and/or people experiencing homelessness to undertake the first phase of the programme to understand their perspectives of research, before being matched with a researcher as part of the
second phase of the programme.

In addition to being matched with a researcher, you would also be invited to take part in ONE of the following opportunities – a review panel; community communications takeover; co-design training workshops.

WHEN will the project take place?

The project will run from October 2023 – March 2024.

Would my organisation be funded to take part in this opportunity?

Yes, your organisation would receive a grant of £5200 to participate in this project. You would be
expected to:

  • Attend an introductory session – where you would be provided with all the necessary
    information and materials
  • Deliver two workshops with up to 10 of your community members
  • Attend a sense checking session to ensure your insights are accurately represented in the
    updated Local Plan for Research
  • Work with a researcher to adapt their research project based on your community members’
    insights
  • Take part in one additional activity as outlined above
  • Attend the final event
  • Take part in the project evaluation
  • Help to promote a research opportunity to your community members/wider community

HOW do I sign up to take part?

If you would like to take part in RViR Phase 2, you need to complete the below application by Monday 2 October

Follow this link for the application form

If you would rather complete this application via telephone, please call Jess on 01962 857 359 or send us an email jessica.johnson@actionhampshire.org to discuss other options. Please do not hesitate to get in touch via these methods if you have any questions at all about the project.

Every organisation will be matched with a research opportunity, however the additional activities will have limited spaces. Therefore, within the application form we ask you to rank the activities from which you would most like to least like to do (if any).
